He began his academic journey at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. This degree equipped him with a strong grounding in engineering principles, providing the technical knowledge essential for understanding the complexities of maritime vessels and systems.
Not content with resting on his laurels, Khalfan pursued further specialization by obtaining a Master of Science degree in Naval Architecture from Newcastle University.
